Ruth Norman has received acclaim as a composer, as an accomplished pianist and for her lecture recitals. Her compositions for organ and piano have been published and performed throughout the country. She has dedicated much of her life to rediscovering little known African-American composers and alerting the public to the works of both Renaissance era and contemporary black composers. She first played in orchestra and music classes at Omaha's Lothrop Elementary and Central High Schools and then graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. She currently resides in Bethesda, Maryland.
