Kelechi Jaavaid (pronounced Kay-Lay-Kee,
Jah-vaid) is a West African name from the tribes of 
Igbo means Thank God, Alive and Living, a name he's chosen. He is also known as the Late Night Poet in the spoken word and music arena; and simply K Jay on the standup comedy scene.
This multi talented artist was born in Omaha Nebraska, but raised in several different cities, arriving in the Twin Cities the fall of 1989, after several attempts in Los Angeles, California pursuing a professional basketball career in the NBA's free agent tryout camp. He's played semi-pro briefly and enjoys being a teaching artist in the Twin Cities. Having been feature on KSTP-TV's "Focus 5" spotlight, teaching poetry to inner-city students, as well as KMOJ radio station, Orchestra Hall with Grammy Award Winning artist Patrice Rushen, Minnesota Fringe Festival with a one man show, "It's Hard Being Tall-Blackman Changing Hats", Acme Comedy Club, and internationally in West Africa are some of many venues he's performed at. His foundation in arts evolved from spoken word and music, which he considers a love and passion to express oneself lyrically and making socially aware conscious art.
Kelechi has used his life experiences to create a well-rounded CD titled "The Art of Life". It was inspired by travel to Africa and the life changing transformations from street life in Omaha Nebraska, to a positive creative artist destined for major impact in the arts community. This CD will take you through a journey that makes you think and smile. The soothing baritone voice can remind you of the old school Gil Scott-Heron, or the late Barry White. It's a combination o0d different writing styles such as neo soul, jazz rap, hip-hop, and spoken word.
This wonderful collaboration with his co-producer Keith Porter's musical energy makes it a rare fun filled CD with humor and wit that edifies the goodness of culture. Mr. Jaavaid hopes his listeners come away with a better understanding of life in arts and it's ability to change people's prospective on music and spoken word.
