Pitmon Foxall I

Pitmon Foxall was born in Magnolia, Alabama on 18 November 1910 to Van Foxall and Helen (Morgan) Partridge Foxall.  He joined an older brother, Collins Foxall, and four Partridge children, Arlene, Gaines, Clitron and Jessie, whose father, Fred, had died in 1906.  The widow, Helen, married Van in 1907 and added Collins, Pitmon, Addie and Vivian Foxall to the blended family.

In 1913 the family relocated to Tuscaloosa, Alabama; then in 1918 to Omaha, Nebraska.  The family lived at 2903 T Street in South Omaha for many years where the children attended West Side Elementary and South High schools.

On August 6, 1932 Pitmon married Emma Partridge who was first cousin to his Partridge siblings.  Emma left her home in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma to live in Omaha where she and Pitmon had three daughters; Oline, Gwen and Vivian Anita.  Vivian Anita died in 1945 when she was only 6 years old.

Pitmon became a member of the Omaha Police Department in 1938.  He was a patrolman and walked the “beat” on Q Street, keeping the peace between Twenty-fourth and Thirty-sixth Streets.  In the 1940s the families relocated to North Omaha and Pitmon’s beat changed to Twenty-fourth Street between Lake and Cumings Streets.  He was promoted to detective sergeant and worked with the homicide section until his retirement in 1968.

Pitmon was well-respected in the community because he was an integral part of it.  He knew everyone in the neighborhoods, their children and their extended families.  He served as a confidant and counselor to many who sought his counsel and advice and was one who respected others’ privacy and confidentiality.

Pitmon passed away in Omaha in 1986 after living a full and rewarding life with his community and his family.  His wife, Emma, followed him in death in 1988.

His beloved nephew and namesake, Pitmon Foxall II (Dosh) joined the Omaha Police Department in the 1950s and his two sons, Pitmon III and Mark also served as members of the OPD.  Currently, Pitmon Foxall III serves as Executive Officer to the Chief of Police in Omaha.  The family tradition continues.
