Destiny

Destiny was founded in the summer of 1983, with the following members Shonda Grayer, Alesia Lynch, Crystal Gresham, and Bridgette Jones.  These 4 ladies became well-known around Omaha for their dynamic voices and their unforgettable harmonizing style as well as their impeccable beauty.

After long hard and tiresome basement practices, they decided it was time to take Omaha by storm. Their first performance was a talent show hosted by the Joselyn Art Museum and yet another talent show sponsored by the North Omaha Boys Club under the direction of Mr. Chuck Miller. With the help of Mr. James Boone, Destiny was featured in Omaha's own Go-A-Head Magazine.

Destiny now decided it was time to elevate to higher heights, by adding musicians to the unit.  After a long hard search, Destiny finally found the core of what would become Omaha's “All Female Band”. Added musicians were Carol Bullion-Keyboardist; Edna McAllister-Lead/Rhythm Guitar; Lisa McIntosh-Bass Guitar; and Ginger “Dee” Davis-Drummer. Now Destiny was ready to hit the scene in Omaha, this unit was complete.

They appeared at all of the popular spots in Omaha and surrounding areas - NCO Club at the Offutt Airforce Base – Bellevue, Nuncios, Just Us, The Backstreet Lounge, Cateekas, The Grapevine Lounge, The Ranch Bowl, Club 89, Dreamers, and the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln.

Destiny began to do bigger and better things, including traveling, writing/performing their own original tunes. With the talent of each member they wrote and arranged memorable songs such as "Time will Tell" & “Baby I'm Hooked”…and the song that made you "Get up off of that Stuff”.

Then came the time when Destiny had to make an intensifying decision. Lisa Mac, the bassist, enlisted in the Armed Forces and had to be replaced. What was once one of the only all female bands around, the unit would now have to add a male. With no funky female bass players around the area in the 80's, Lisa Mac’s replacement was the legendary Charles "OilCan"  Jones, already very well known and respected on the scene, he became a big brother to all the ladies in the group. With this unit and the addition of power vocalists, Melony Watkins,  Destiny traveled and performed in Dallas, Texas; South/North Dakota, Des Moines, Iowa; Kansas City, MO; and surrounding areas; and were chosen to be the opening act for world-renowned national recording artists, MidNight Starr.

Destiny continued on into the early 90’s musically through the ebb and flow; the ups, downs and disappointments of the Omaha music scene. Members were also developing other musical interests. Constantly having to prove themselves as viable musicians and artists; the desire to start families; the inevitable growth of talent in this unit along with the constant personnel changes, lead to the disbanding of this talented Omaha first.

The members of Destiny formed a special bond that will always exist in our hearts, the fans that we touched; our extended family of fellow musicians and our families.

OUR HEARTS ARE FULL OF EVERLASTING LOVE AS WE REMEMBER OUR SPECIAL SISTER CAROL BULLION TERRELL. REST IN PEACE.
